The Revived – The First Digital Olympic Team for Fallen Athletes.
The Paris Olympics 2024 were meant to send a message of peace. But for many Ukrainian athletes, the dream of competing remained unfulfilled—they lost their lives in the war. With #TheRevived, the first-ever AI Olympic team, they are given a symbolic platform to take part in the Games.
At the heart of the initiative is Ukrainian boxer Maksym Halinichev, who was killed at the front in 2023 at just 22 years old. He is joined by Anastasiia Honcharova (cycling), Fedir Iepifanov (fencing), Oleksandr Peleshenko (weightlifting), Mykyta Zasiadko (swimming), and Mykola Zhydkov (football). Thanks to cutting-edge AI technology, they have been visually and vocally reconstructed to share their stories – made possible by the great trust and support of their families.
In an emotional online film, they “compete” in the disciplines they once trained for. Supported by prominent ambassadors, the campaign serves as a powerful reminder that behind the statistics of war are faces, voices, hearts, and dreams.
The campaign gained global attention, was featured in leading media outlets, and sparked an international conversation about the war’s impact – even on elite sports. Additionally, it supports Ukraine’s recovery through fundraising for de-mining efforts. A powerful tribute that reaches far beyond the Olympic Games.
