COMDIRECT VS. TRADE REPUBLIC.
"Other banks bring Hollywood." – A Creative Response to Industry Noise
The challenge was to react as a brand to the competitor's largest-ever campaign, which demanded maximum attention through the use of a global star and a direct provocation ("And what does your bank offer?"). Instead of engaging in a costly arms race for celebrity power, we chose the path of "Brand Mirroring." We precisely adopted the visual tonality and setting of the Trade Republic campaign to ensure instant recognizability, but radically redefined the frame with our own brand message.
While the competitor focused on distance and pure spectacle, we responded by shifting the focus back to the customer: "Other banks bring Hollywood. With us, you are in the spotlight." This creative approach of reduction exposed the competitor's exaggerated showmanship and translated the message "Less show. More for your money." directly into the competitor’s own media environment. This spot is a best-case example of agile, reactive brand management: we not only leveraged the competitor’s attention but also strengthened our own position as a reliable, customer-centric bank by maintaining a confident stance, without falling into the trap of becoming a spectacle ourselves.
